ever-impressing uk talent james dexter makes a return to bondage-music this december as he drops his latest three track ep lets go back. 2018 has been a substantial year for london based dj and producer james dexter, with appearances at the likes of fabric (london), claire (amsterdam) and sash (sydney) and releases on little helpers, gruuv, deeperfect and his own inermu imprint in the past 12 months alone. with the new year in sight, here we find three new fresh productions in the form of his lets go back ep, marking a return to bondage music in the process following his recent remix of frinks sofisticate on the imprint. title cut lets go back opens proceedings as dexter reveals an up-front, bumping cut armed with crunchy drum licks, infectious vocal samples and rich, airy chords, before simple things utlises further rich and soulful vocals alongside crisp skipping hats and resonant kicks to guide the production through seven minutes of groove driven house music. last up, dexters roll through pairs refined, stripped back organic percussion arrangements with wandering synth lines and vocal coos to wrap up the ep in fine fashion.

london modular alliance presents gently techno vibes with acid flavoured electro stuff

canadian duo mdd make their slam debut following on from their first release in 2018 on and imprint inner surface. unforgiving, dark and distorted techno at its best. somber vocals and murky atmospheres create a wicked tension throughout the ep. manni dee also features for the first time on slam and gives his contribution by remixing opal fall into a driving dance floor stomper.

perc trax slips out its first cheeky white label in over two years, pulling together two secret weapons from perc’s sets this year. first off perc trax newcomer tymon rips into perc’s own “hyperlink” giving it a shot of adrenalin which has been eating festivals alive all summer.
on the b-side ansome returns to perc trax for the first time since in infamous british steel release twisting manni dee’s “london isn’t england” into a grinding mass of kick drums and percussion, layering ewa justka’s vocal over one of his rawest productions to date.

mythologen, aka alexander palmestal follows last year’s debut album mythologen with the 12” ep “church music”. this ep is a love declaration to londons club scenes and some of the titles are named after parts of districts in south east london. the tracks on this record are free and loose in its melodies and you hear that palmestal has worked on pure intuition in the song making process, inspired by the surrounding smells, sounds and people. as explosively impressing as the album was, is also “church music” and the airy, uplifting sound that has become part of mythologens trademark, is developed with a sacral touch. alexander palmestal have since the days of pistol disco in the early 2000’s been one step ahead of most acts in leftfield and house music and have created an own musical space to exist in - something most artist never achieve! “church music” consolidates mythologen’s position as both a guardian and an innovator of modern dance music

ow finally on vinyl: artbat are bringing their first full ep release to diynamic music. the three-tracker -planeta- starts off with the title track -planeta-, a rapid-fire techno odyssey that might as well be taken from a relentless pursuit in a futuristic action movie. this is followed by the gloomy bassline of -prometheus-. heavy on percussive elements, the track is divided in half by a cascading synth-break only to return with more layers of percussions, strings and the hypnotic bassline. closing off the ep is -sand in your shoes- featuring london based artist dino lenny, who has previously worked with madonna or wu-tang clan and produced remixes for underworld, missy elliot or timbaland. the collab track is a dreamy deep-house tune and a perfectly emotive way to finish the record.

maps is a project by a london-based lithuanian drummer and producer, marijus aleksa. this labour of love is the culmination of many hours spent touring and in-session with some of the greats of londons bubbling contemporary jazz scene, resulting in marijuss first solo project to date. the ep combines elements of jazz, afrobeat and electronic music through free-form jamming and remixing, with movement and the dance floor firmly in mind.

warehouse music is the imprint brought to you by london based dj and producer ryan aitchison, aka mella dee. dj mag’s ‘best breakthrough label’s’ latest offering is a collaboration between mella dee and an anonymous artist and friend of the label owner. stutter minimal mix is stripped back and hard-hitting, one for 4am shoulder shrugging, whilst collision is a tough and heavy big room cut. stutter closes the ep as a more resilient, straight mix of the a1.

raised on the best of popular and underground dance music of the 70s and 80s, partner has created an outlet to pay homage to the finest hooks and loops from around the world, seamlessly repurposing them for the dancefloor. first up, a-side track patu launches headfirst into an off-kilter bollywood infused dancefloor curveball punchy drums, melodic vocals and vintage instrumentation, save your weirdest shapes for this one. on the flip, my people gives an injection of latin heat triumphant, horns and an unrelenting rhythms section throw this into full carnival spirit. just in time for the summer. since relocating to london from brighton, things have been taking shape for partner music. last year saw a debut festival slot at dimensions festival, plus a handful of great support from the likes ofmount kimbie, dan shake and san proper. with some exciting releases lined up throughout 2018, its looking like a promising year for the budding producer. with this release high praise continue to build their status as a label to keep an eye on, with their party series and clothing line steadily growing in popularity.

im basement des legendären westlondoner flamingo clubs gab es den weniger bekannten americana club, wo jimi hendrix 1966 erstmals in england live auftrat, paul mccartney seine spätere ehefrau linda eastman kennenlernte und mitte der 1950er jahre ein mod-allnighter mit r&b, blues, jazz, calypso und ska stattfand, dem dieser gleichnamige lp-sampler mit 16 erfrischenden tracks gewidmet ist.

das projekt wurde erstmals im februar 2016 im barbican aufgeführt und von boiler room und dem lco selbst kuratiert. die musik schafft synergien zwischen elektronischen und akustischen live-komponenten, nicht nur bei harmonien, sondern auch, wie traditionelle instrumente zu hybriden instrumenten verbunden wurden. als teil der entwicklung reicherten actress und das lco ein typisches klavier an und schufen damit sounds unter mithilfe von verschiedenen objekten, wie bspw. schüsseln oder plastiktüten. die ausverkaufte show selbst war ein großer erfolg und womöglich der startpunkt, der schlussendlich zu dieser mit spannung erwarteten veröffentlichung führte. für das album nahm das lco die einzelnen instrumentalparts im spitfire studio in l.a. auf, schickte sie dann rüber zu actress, der diese spuren nach seinen vorstellungen verfremdete, wodurch wirklich einzigartige neue stücke entstanden. außerdem haben lco, neben anderen tracks aus seinem werk, actress’ „hubble“ (aus seinem 2010er-album „splazsh“) und „n.e.w.“ (aus „r.i.p.“, 2012) neu interpretiert.die entstehung des projekts war sehr stark durch das mekka des brutalismus inspiriert, dem barbican centre in london, wo das projekt uraufgeführt wurde. iannis xenakis, ein griechischer komponist und architekt, der gebäude seinen kompositionen entsprechend schuf und vice versa, war eine starke inspirationsquelle. actress und lco haben, xenakis nicht ganz unähnlich, die grundrisse des barbican verwendet, um klänge zu produzieren, die direkt von den formen des gebäudes beeinflusst waren.

this ep is inspired by the idea behind a clothing shop in london, in the 60ies. it was a place that became a cult institution for artists and creatives of all kinds at that time, based on sharing ideas and imagination, and here the circle closes to this record. we want to take you on a musical trip, with this record full of branches and secret paths. the well-known remixers andreas henneberg, agaric and normen weber used their imagination to show the main track in completely different shades. straightforward and for the big dancefloor, as well as deep and warm for the secret festival floor in the grove. let us take you on the trip, here and now and forever.

the score for “the theory of everything” is created by the recently deceased (9 february 2018) icelandic composer jóhann jóhannsson. jóhannsson’s intricate compositions provide a stunning backdrop to the romantic drama about stephen and jane hawking, portrayed in the film by eddie redmayne (“les misérables”) and felicity jones (“the amazing spider-man 2”). he has composed music for many films including scoring director denis villeneuvue’s film “prisoners” and josh c. waller’s “mccanick”. limited edition of 1500 individually numbered copies on transparent blue 180 gram double vinyl, housed in a gatefold sleeve.

dokta has been seen lurking around 20:20 vision with a curious take on that label s particular brand of house. that step to the left becomes more pronounced on this record, where dokta gets to call on a wealth of live instrumentation to animate his sound. on london nights he interweaves vocal, ambling keys and crooked basslines into a curious and utterly inspired cocktail of cool-headed pressure, which jason heath then simmers down to a purely instrumental refrain. burnski goes to the other extreme and beefs the track up for a firm and functional ride, while ralph lawson dubs the track out and gives it a low slung swagger.

black truffle is honored to present the first ever reissue of whirled music by max eastley, steve beresford, paul burwell and david toop, one of the key documents of the inventive and energetic scene around the london musicians collective in the late 1970s and early 1980s. originally released on toop’s own quartz label in 1980, the lp features a remarkable series of performances made entirely with whirled and swung instruments and objects. part of the second generations of british free improvising musicians, the prolific scene centered around the performers heard here chafed at the limitations present within the music and ideology of improvising legends such as derek bailey, evan parker, tony oxley and john stevens. where the first generations of british free improvisers often demonstrated a rigorous commitment to non-idiomatic free improvisation and instrumental virtuosity, musicians like beresford reconnected with the dada antics of figures like han bennink and surrendered to joyful musical promiscuity, gleefully disrupting expectations around ‘serious’ improvised music through quotations (of anything from betthoven to reggae) and deliberate amateurism.
